Orlando Crossings shopping center opens

These days, shopping center owners have to do at least a little something to generate excitement about their properties.

There was a time, between the 1980s and mid-1990s or so, when the opening of a new shopping mall would be enough of an event in and of itself and could easily have generated buzz on its own. However, the commercial real estate market and shopping environment have changed and nowadays, some sort of fanfare is required.

For the AMP Group, which owns the Orlando Crossings shopping center, that fanfare came in the form of Brazilian dancers, drummers and street performers.

Whether it will be enough to attract a sustainable body of shoppers to the mall remains to be seen. As we have written about on this blog previously, open-air “lifestyle centers” and websites like Amazon are increasingly the preferred methods of shopping these days. Enclosed malls have been declining in popularity for quite some time now.

The reason we took note of this story is that we often work with commercial real estate clients. In order to serve this segment of our clientele with efficiency and skill, we think it is important to stay on top of trends and developments in the commercial real estate industry.

If you have a commercial real estate matter, like a lease or purchase agreement, to attend to, you would do well to work with an experienced commercial real estate client on that transaction. Having valuable and knowledgable assistance can be a great asset, especially when negotiations are tough.
