Bars may be liable for personal injuries caused by drunk driver

Elderly couple survives head on crash by drunk driver and seeks compensation from the driver, the owner of vehicle, as well as the bar owner for their personal injuries. Florida law holds bar owners liable in certain circumstances.  In cases where the drunk driver had spent hours at the bar prior to the crash and also frequented the bar on several occasions, a bar owner may be responsible for the victims’ damages.

Drunk drivers may also be responsible for punitive damages which are damages above and beyond compensatory damages.  Punitive damages are intended and awarded to punish certain wrongdoers for their egregious acts.  The owner of the vehicle may also be responsible for the victims’ damages.
